So many interesting things happening….not sure where to start:

  1. AN A GRADE IN START UP ACTIVITIES! Our executive board is proud of our accomplishments thus far, 10 months into this year, since we were elected. We had a great celebration of the 50th Birthday of MEDICARE at the Cohoes music hall right on the actual birthday July 30th. We had the pleasure of a concert by Peter Yarrow and crowd of over 200  and distributed 150 cupcakes as people came to sing and rally to keep Medicare alive for our grandchildren. Then in August we shared 100 cupcakes with an 80 written on the top of each one from the Cookie Factory with the baseball fans of the Tri Valley Cats baseball team on the 25th of August to celebrate the 80th birthday of Social Security
  2.  NEW WEBSITE Our newly elected State president Barry Kaufmann initiated a new statewide website which is really worth logging on to every week or so……It is ….www.newyorstateara.org. I really like the mission statement found there and what the Alliance BELIVES in is written so well. Go on and tell me what you think!

3.COMMUNICATION AND SHARING Barry Kaufmann has begun a monthly coordination between the 5 Chapters of the NYS ARA by having a conference call on the 1st Wednesday of each month. I find them very informative and will give me topics to discuss with you and aware of issues you need to be aware of as well.

If you want to contact Barry Kaufmann he has a new e/mail address as the new NYS President. Put it in your contacts. president@newyorkstateara.org

  1. GET YOUR MILE WALK IN + . In an earlier e/mail to you I reminded you about the Labor Day Parade that this year will be on Fri. the 11th.of September. ALL marchers’ line up at 5 pm. Marching STARTS at 6pm from the Capital to the Corning Preserve. The CD Area Labor Federation puts on the Labor Day Parade every year and this year there will be a big celebration following the parade at the Corning Preserve where the Parade ends with a free picnic, music and fireworks for all the participants and their family. RSVP me that you are coming. karengony@gmail.com or 518 366-8141

We want to show the community how vital and alive we seniors ARE.

6.OUR BOARD IS EXPANDING Our executive board of 5 officers have been doing all the planning but starting October 1st our board will expand with reps from CSEA,PEF,UAW and NYSUT to guide us through the rest of this year and the next. I hope you get to meet them at our next planned Event for all our members. Save the date: Thursday Nov 19th for our after the election meeting and luncheon at NYSUT.I have invited a known in this area speaker who will share interesting facts and a panel of knowledgeable people discussing where SENIORS need to put our time our energy and our vote for Nov.2016.PLUS a chance to mingle with our members and enjoy a lovely meal.

7.SOMETHING NEW COMING FOR YOU BE AN ACTIVIST ABOUT I attended the ARA National Conference in DC July 7-10. We were so lucky to have Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren all address us and share their support to seniors. There were many workshops but a very interesting one about sharing the good news in a different way about the program of Social Security. We’ll be looking to some local ARA leaders to share the word.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIENDS TO SEEK OUT WHAT THE ARA IS ABOUT AND BRING THEM WITH YOU to the NOV 19TH.meeting AND OR SHARE THIS NEWSLETTER.

Hope you are getting the Friday Alerts from the National ARA on your e/mail. Worth the read! If not let me know!C
