TPP Forum on Long Island January 28

On Thursday January 28 in Manhasset the Long Island chapter of NYSARA was part of a panel that sought to educate constituents of Congress persons Israel and Rice about the down sides of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal.  Stanley Bergman, President of the Long Island Chapter of NYSARA was part of the panel.  Stan detailed the issues surrounding aspects of this trade deal that would raise drug prices for seniors and allow corporations to circumvent laws of the United States to challenge issues, through lawsuits,  such as food safety, environmental laws and drug price negotiation if it affects their profits.  The tribunal that would decide these cases are made up entirely of corporate lawyers.  Over 100 people were in attendance to hear panelists from Food and Water Watch, the Sierra club, Move and other organizations.

The forum was sponsored by the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans and our partners: The Long Island Federation of Labor, Food and Water Watch, The Sierra Club, Long Island Progressive Coalition, Communication Workers of America, Working Families Party, Grassroots Environmental Education, ReachOut America, Green Party of Nassau County, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, Global Justice for Animals and the Environment, Long Island Jobs With Justice, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Trade Justice New York Metro, Slow Food North Shore and iEat Green
