Long Island Chapter of NYSARA Submits a Resolution on Juneteenth Holiday
NYS Alliance for Retired Americans/LI Chapter June 19, 2020 Juneteenth Motion Passed The Long Island chapter of NYSARA passed the following resolution at its June 19, 2020 zoom meeting: The NYSARA Board of Directors will consider this resolution at their next Board of Directors Meeting Whereas 47 states and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or observance, and; Whereas AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka stated on June 19, 2020, that “we especially call attention to the economic disparities that persist for Black Americans…we must fight more than ever before to ensure true economic freedom for Black workers. We will not allow workers to be perpetually divided by race;” Therefore, be it resolved, that the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans (NYSARA) requests that NYSARA, The Alliance for Retired Americans and the AFL-CIO support the passage of S. 4019, the “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act,” and H.R. 7232 “To amend title 5, United States Code, to establish Juneteenth Independence Day as a Federal holiday…” Please call New York’s Senators and your Congressperson via the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121. |
