NYSARA to Hold its Biennial Election Convention May 18, 2023
| The 2023 NYSARA biennial election convention, postponed from 2022 because of COVID, will be held on May 18, 2023 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm at NYSUT headquarters at 800 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham, NY. There will be many orders of business including the election of officers. Candidates at this time are Barry Kaufmann (NYSUT/AFL-CIO) for President, Paul Schuh (UAW) for Vice President and Gary Lanahan (CSEA) for Treasurer. There is currently an opening for the office of Secretary of NYSUT. Officers must be members of a New York State annual fee payer and officers may not come from the same fee payer. Nominations will be accepted from the floor. The candidate MUST be present.
In addition, we will be hearing from Lisa Cutler, Director of Communications for the national ARA. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Governor Kathy Hochul and NYS Senator Rachel May, chair of the Aging Committee in the Senate have been invited. Resolutions for actions to be considered will be in order. If you plan to submit a resolution, the deadline for submission is May 5, 2023. Include your name, affiliation and contact information with the resolution and e mail it to assistant@newyorkstateara.org. We will have a report on both the upcoming reauthorization of the Older Americans Act and the NYS Master Plan for Aging as well as reports from our regional chapters. The prepaid registration fee fee is $10 per person and that includes lunch. Registration MUST be received by May 8, 2023.
