NYSARA to Pilot Stop the Scam Program for ARA
| The New York State Alliance for Retired Americans will be involved in rolling out and piloting a program designed to address the dramatic increase in scams that target seniors. Focussed on AI and Social Media scams rather than traditional scams this is the newest and most difficult scams and largely targets seniors. This program will incorporate already existing scam programs from the government, including a scam prevention book put out by the Senate Committee on Aging with ranking member NYS Senator Gillibrand, and NYS Office for the aging. Discussions are ongoing for a roll out in March with Governmental leaders as well as leaders of aging agencies and organizations.
NYSARA will be looking for victims of these types of scams to share their experiences so we make as many seniors aware of the different scams and how to fight/prevent their success. More details on our partners and progress will be shared in future Monday Alerts. NYSARA President Barry Kaufmann said “There is no more persistent and destructive issue than scamming. Seniors are a prime target of this fraud that cost seniors billions of dollars. There is perhaps no more important issue that NYSARA can address and we are proud to be part of this effort.” |
