The New York State Alliance for Retired Americans is urging seniors to vote NO on the proposal to hold a New York State Constitutional Convention that will be on this November’s ballot: It would cost taxpayers money that could be better spent and could be hijacked by special interests. There are already better ways to amend the state Constitution without putting important right, benefits and protections at risk.

6) Many reasons for seniors to vote no on Constitutional Convention
The New York State Alliance for Retired Americans is urging seniors to vote NO on the proposal to hold a New York State Constitutional Convention that will be on this November’s ballot: Defined Benefit Public Employee pensions could be adversely affected with unintended consequences on taxpayers. More than 80 percent of public employee retirees continue to live and pay taxes in New York providing about $35 billion in economic benefit. Diminishing benefits could both affect tax collection and drive up social safety net costs by nearly $4 billion.
